Viking Line, a major ferry operator connecting countries around the northern Baltic Sea, was suffering from Java scalability problems and inconsistent response times on its customer reservation portal, causing unacceptable wait times and downtime during peak selling periods. To solve this, Viking Line engaged AZUL SYSTEMS and piloted Azul’s Zing JVM for its reservation system.

Following a two-week Zing pilot, Viking Line replaced its existing JVM with AZUL SYSTEMS’ Zing, producing immediate stability and consistent response times—supporting hundreds of simultaneous customers and transactions. The deployment reduced time developers spent tuning and monitoring the JVM, allowed the company to handle larger data and allocation rates on existing servers, and deferred the need for immediate infrastructure upgrades.
