Pong Research, maker of The Pong Case, needed help turning its proven antenna technology into a product that stood out in the crowded mobile accessory market. Although the technology reduced dropped calls and exposure to wireless energy, initial prototypes lacked the design, packaging and messaging to appeal to smartphone owners; Pong engaged IDEO for design and used AYTM to run market research to identify the most resonant variants and buyer preferences.
AYTM conducted a series of research projects and rapid survey iterations with Pong, helping finalize the winning case design, refine product positioning and benefits messaging, and confirm the optimal price point. As a result of AYTM’s work and Pong’s redesign, the case launched in late Summer 2013, sales increased, Pong secured retail placements at Best Buy, RadioShack and HMS Host, attracted major media and celebrity attention, and improved market appeal and adoption.
