A Axway Case Study
Novartis, a leading global medicines company reaching more than 750 million people, faced major disruption in healthcare and needed to accelerate innovation and shorten time-to-market for new medicines. The challenge was to move from monolithic IT to more agile, modular systems and to shift culture across IT and the business toward an API-driven, data-open model rather than working in silos.
Novartis implemented an API and microservices program with containerization, governance and a global API platform and gateways, while planning region-specific gateways for data residency. The program rapidly scaled — onboarding 300 APIs and growing operational APIs from 170 to 450 in six months — and, combined with AI and data lakes, has increased agility, opened data for partners, sped clinical insights and helped accelerate R&D and time to market.
