PermataBank, one of Indonesia’s top 10 banks with about 320 branches, faced the twin challenges of modernizing a legacy core, meeting rapidly changing customer expectations, and reaching large unbanked and digital-native segments without expanding branches or staff. To stay competitive as consumers moved to mobile wallets and fintech services, the bank needed new, partner-driven ways to acquire customers and drive transactions.
By rearchitecting its digital platform and adopting Axway’s AMPLIFY API Management, PermataBank exposed banking services via APIs embedded into fintech partners (wealth managers, P2P lenders, e‑commerce, rideshare, gaming and more), creating new business models and distribution channels. The results: a 375% increase in new account acquisition over three years (1.6M to 7.6M), 72% of 2019 new accounts attributed to APIs, a 274% CAGR growth in transaction volume (153M to 288M annually), plus flat headcount with improved productivity and lower unit operating costs.
