Case Study: Major European Airline achieves Asian expansion and API-driven agility with Axway

A Axway Case Study

Preview of the Major European Airline Case Study

For an airline that wants to expand business to and from Asia, APIs are the only way to go

A major European airline flying to more than 70 destinations across Europe, Asia and North America needed to grow Asian traffic but was hampered by a rigid, home‑grown data infrastructure. Although the airline had implemented some APIs, they lacked centralized management, standardized development and the ability to virtualize services, create a single point of internet entry, and move quickly to meet mobile and security demands — all required to double Asian traffic by 2020.

Axway delivered an API Gateway with API Management and Analytics that exposed internal APIs, enabled new microservices, and provided full visibility and control over data flows. The solution integrated mobile and web services, connected to Amadeus and the airline’s internal booking systems, supported dynamic offerings (seats, meals, check‑in, baggage, extras) and extended services into car and hotel bookings and loyalty programs — putting the carrier on track to expand flights to and from Asia and improve the customer experience.
