CETREL, the Luxembourg arm of SIX Payment Services, provides end-to-end card lifecycle services to banks and needed to modernize its API web services to improve security, reduce ongoing maintenance costs, and enable new peer-to-peer (P2P) mobile payment offerings. Their in‑house API platform could not keep pace with emerging threats or the agility required for mobile payments.

CETREL selected Axway API Management (Axway API Gateway) to centralize encryption, monitoring and around 200 security checks for all API traffic. The gateway cut maintenance overhead, enabled a fast P2P pilot rollout, and now handles ~3 million cards and 300,000 API calls per day (peaks ~40/sec) with <100 ms latency, 24/7 availability, easier onboarding and strong stability and performance.
