Case Study: Union Nationale des Mutualités Socialistes achieves automated, centralized data exchange and MyCareNet connectivity with Axway

Automation, visibility and integration for one of Belgium’s largest health insurers

Union Nationale des Mutualités Socialistes (UNMS) is one of Belgium’s largest health insurers, managing reimbursements for about 3 million people. Rapid growth left its information system fragmented across mainframes, AS/400 and many Windows applications, creating complex, manual data exchanges (FTP), limited XML capability and mounting compliance challenges with partners like Banque Carrefour and INAMI. UNMS needed to automate integration, simplify external flows and meet legal connectivity requirements to move toward a paperless medical-data future.

UNMS implemented Axway’s integration platform—Axway Gateway, Axway Integrator and Axway Sentinel (Synchrony)—to centralize routing, translate partner formats, automate exchanges and provide real-time monitoring and alerts. Within months core flows were regulated, automated and supervised; UNMS became the first Belgian supplementary insurer able to connect to MyCareNet/BeHealth, significantly cut manual processing, improved compliance and gained a flexible, future-ready infrastructure for SEPA, XML and other upcoming standards.
