Case Study: Erste Group achieves high-velocity API innovation and balanced governance with Axway AMPLIFY API Management

A Axway Case Study

Preview of the Erste Group Case Study

Advancing high-velocity innovation with banking APIs

Erste Group, a major Central and Eastern European banking group, needed an organization-wide API strategy to modernize IT, meet PSD2 and other regulatory requirements, and support customers and third‑party developers — all while preserving each country bank’s autonomy and different legacy systems. The challenge was to standardize common APIs where needed (e.g., PSD2 and the “George” internet-banking platform) without slowing independent, country‑level innovation, and to speed delivery of new API products.

Erste implemented Axway AMPLIFY API Management as a central hub and single developer portal, using metadata-driven tagging, automated testing and delivery workflows, and built‑in security and endpoint discovery to document and publish APIs. The result: a unified portal and catalog with group and country‑wide deployments, faster time-to-market (new APIs listed in about 10–15 days), improved visibility into adoption and third‑party usage, and a balance of group governance for harmonized APIs with local control for country‑specific offerings.
