A Axon Case Study
Las Cruces Police Department, serving about 100,000 residents (rising by roughly 20% when the state university is in session) with 200 sworn officers, needed better efficiency, officer safety, and real-time situational awareness—especially for high-risk SWAT incidents and to meet a state body-camera mandate. To address this, the agency partnered with Axon and began beta testing Axon Body 3 cameras while evaluating the Officer Safety Plan (OSP 7+) and Respond for Devices.
Axon supplied Axon Body 3, Respond for Devices, and the OSP 7+ bundle; Body 3s were described as robust and easy to use, with about 60 already deployed and a phased rollout planned for all sworn officers plus ~30 non-sworn staff. Respond’s livestreaming, alerts and mapping let commanders pinpoint officers and coordinate in real time—what a SWAT commander called “100% better”—and OSP 7+ has improved training, TASER logistics, VR community engagement, and overall operational efficiency for Las Cruces Police Department.
