How Texas City Fire Department Improved Training & Cut Complaints with Axon body cameras

Texas City Fire Department faced growing needs to improve on-scene training, reduce ambiguous complaints, and address HIPAA/privacy concerns after 2018. Chief David Zacherl selected Axon as the vendor because the local police department already used Axon technology and the city’s IT team was familiar with it; Axon Evidence’s cloud-based redaction tools helped the Department craft policies that protected patient privacy.

Texas City implemented Axon Body cameras (initially Axon Body 2, now Axon Body 3) with Axon Respond for Devices and Axon Evidence, assigning at least 15 cameras in service daily and rotating them by shift. Axon’s livestreaming and video evidence have improved training (including EMS intubation reviews), helped recover lost valuables, and eliminated many frivolous complaints—most complaints are now resolved the same business day—saving investigative time and increasing community transparency.
