A Axon Case Study
Seattle Police Department needed a faster, more consistent way to train officers in crisis intervention and TASER use. Traditional methods relied on slides, videos, roleplay, and static props, which were time-consuming, lacked realism, pulled officers off the street, and made it hard to deliver consistent training at scale. The department turned to Axon VR to improve training efficiency and realism.
Axon implemented Axon VR across Seattle PD with 48 headsets and 16 TASER 10 VR Controllers, using it for Community Engagement Training and TASER energy weapons practice. The result was quicker training sessions, less strain on instructors, stronger officer empathy and de-escalation skills, and improved live-fire performance; trainees reportedly performed well right away, hitting targets from zero to 45 feet with greater speed, accuracy, and confidence. The program also reduced range time and live cartridge costs while making CIT mandatory for every officer.
