Pittsburgh Bureau of Police boosts body-worn camera policy compliance with Axon Performance

The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police faced low body-worn camera (BWC) activation rates and officer skepticism after rolling out cameras to its 750 sworn officers. To address resistance and build trust in the program, the department partnered with Axon and deployed Axon Performance to provide clear, data-driven visibility into BWC use and policy compliance.

Axon Performance’s dashboards and analytics were used by leadership to highlight good practices, recognize compliant officers, and target training and policy changes. As a result, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police’s BWC activation rate rose from 35% to 65% in under a year, complaints were more often exonerated or dismissed with video evidence, and the agency saw a measurable cultural shift toward transparency and peer-driven accountability thanks to Axon.
