How to Overcome Training Resource Limitations with Axon VR

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department faced growing training resource constraints—limited time, space, staff and budget—while trying to upskill roughly 1,600 officers across 8 precincts. After upgrading from the TASER X26P to TASER 7, Sgt. Jason Spencer and the Confrontation Management Section sought a scalable way to deliver reality-based TASER, de-escalation and community engagement training and selected Axon’s Axon VR to address those gaps.

Axon implemented Axon VR (Simulator Training, Community Engagement modules and Axon Academy) agency‑wide in 2022, enabling continuous, on-demand training that reduced downtime and avoided live cartridge costs by allowing officers to deploy hundreds of virtual cartridges at no expense. Within a year Axon VR improved weapon proficiency and officer confidence, supported recruiting events, boosted community empathy training, and delivered measurable time and equipment savings across MNPD’s force.
