Big Tex Trailer Manufacturing, a leading U.S. utility trailer maker, needed better visibility into the costs and profitability of its trucking arm, Big Tex Transportation. Their ERP system lacked trucking-specific functionality to capture revenue and expenses at the truck level and to include payroll, so much of the accounting work — miles, rates and invoicing — was done manually. Axon Software implemented a real-time transportation solution that ties dispatching, payroll and accounting together, letting Big Tex enter orders and trips and automatically calculate miles, rates and charges while posting transactions directly to the general ledger. The Axon Software system eliminated much of the manual invoicing work, gave managers per-truck and per-driver cost visibility, enabled comparison of driver fuel efficiency and expense outliers, and materially improved cost control and decision-making.
