HSBC, one of the world’s largest banking and financial services organizations, needed a better way to manage the use of sensitive production data in non-production environments while staying compliant with global privacy laws. After a prior consulting effort fell short, HSBC lacked a clear global PII policy, enforceable SLAs, and a reliable way to verify masking or track exceptions. Axis Technology, LLC was brought in to redesign the data privacy process using a Data as a Service (DaaS) approach.

Axis Technology, LLC implemented a new end-to-end data process design with distinct request flows for business users and the internal Data Privacy Services team, along with a portal, Jira Service Desk, SOPs, and strict SLAs. The new process went live in September 2019 and quickly increased requests from 59 to 138 in the first week, cut SLAs from 6 months to 6 weeks, and enabled consistent masking worldwide. HSBC also integrated corporate data protection standards into development with minimal disruption.
