Wisconsin airport uses video analytics to detect unusual foot traffic patterns in concourses

Green Bay-Austin Straubel International Airport, a regional airport in Green Bay, Wisconsin handling over 350,000 enplanements annually, faced typical transportation-hub security challenges — notably monitoring concourse exit lanes to detect reverse foot traffic and unauthorized entry without staffing doors around the clock. To modernize failing exit-lane tech and reduce false alarms, the airport deployed Axis Communications’ network cameras as the core of its video surveillance system.

Axis Communications’ cameras were integrated with Milestone XProtect VMS and Agent Vi’s savVi analytics to detect wrong-way movement and restricted-area entry, automatically sending visual and audio alerts to TSA and the airport Public Safety Communication Center. With more than 140 HDTV Axis fixed, PTZ and thermal cameras across the facility, the system sped incident response, provided forensic evidence for parking-fraud and slip-and-fall investigations, preserved a very low-risk environment, and delivered a payback in under a year.
