Utah schools learn to stay safe with Axis

Weber School District, based in Ogden, Utah, needed a centralized, countywide video system to replace a patchwork of analog cameras across 45 school facilities serving more than 31,000 students. The District worked with Axis Communications, deploying Axis network cameras and AXIS M7010 Video Encoders alongside Genetec Security Center to create a common, scalable safety platform tailored to each campus’ needs.

Axis Communications’ solution—delivered over district fiber to a centralized data center—now covers about 945 cameras (using a standard mix of Axis models) with more than three weeks’ retention, often replacing clusters of analog devices with a single high-resolution IP camera. The system has measurably improved incident resolution and deterrence: principals routinely export footage to resolve fights and bullying, schools captured a student vandalizing tires and identified arson suspects, one flooding claim was proven to be mechanical (saving thousands), and other districts are studying Weber’s Axis-based deployment.
