A Axis Communications Case Study
The United States Park Police faced the high-risk challenge of securing the 2013 Presidential Inauguration — an event with an anticipated turnout exceeding 800,000 and dignitaries including the President and other national leaders. To expand tactical situational awareness with a relatively small number of officers, the United States Park Police deployed Axis Communications HDTV-quality network cameras, specifically AXIS Q6032‑E and AXIS Q6035‑E PTZ Dome Network Cameras.
Axis Communications’ solution placed AXIS Q6032‑E (36x optical zoom) and AXIS Q6035‑E (1080p, 20x optical zoom) cameras along the National Mall and parade route, streaming secure live video to more than 30 partner public‑safety agencies and mobile units. The cameras’ precise pan/tilt/zoom, strong low‑light performance and centralized web‑based streaming enabled rapid inspection of suspicious items, crowd‑flow management and continuous predawn‑to‑sunset coverage — helping keep the historic event essentially uneventful (close to one million people watched the swearing‑in) and demonstrating measurable multi‑agency situational awareness.
