Town of Marshfield balances privacy and protection with Axis

The Town of Marshfield needed to improve public safety and give first responders better situational awareness while preserving privacy in sensitive public spaces after a foiled attack changed local security priorities. The town selected Axis Communications’ AXIS 215 PTZ network cameras (deployed by partner SituCon Systems) to provide video coverage in locations—like the selectmen’s meeting room—where traditional surveillance had been restricted.

SituCon installed more than a dozen Axis PTZ cameras inside SituCam Privacy Protecting Enclosures that keep mechanical “eyelids” closed until a wireless Instant Alert is pressed, at which point the eyelids open and video plus caller ID data are sent to dispatchers; the network is accessible only during incidents. Axis Communications’ cameras gave dispatchers and police real-time visibility that helped Marshfield quickly defuse an aggressive confrontation, reduced the need for continuous monitoring, enabled after-hours motion-detection activation, and saved time and expense for town staff.
