Case Study: Richmond Volunteer Rescue Squad achieves stronger security and organized access control with Axis Communications' AXIS Entry Manager

A Axis Communications Case Study

Preview of the Richmond Volunteer Rescue Squad Case Study

The Richmond Volunteer Rescue Squad utilizes an Axis solution to control access to its medical facility

The Richmond Volunteer Rescue Squad (Richmond, Virginia) was using an outdated push-button combination lock system that left vehicle bays, classrooms and stored medical supplies unsecured and without accountability. To tighten control and track who accessed sensitive areas, the Richmond Volunteer Rescue Squad worked with Axis Communications to implement networked access control using AXIS A1001 Network Door Controllers and AXIS Entry Manager software.

Axis Communications installed two AXIS A1001 controllers with card readers on front and back entry points and configured AXIS Entry Manager for scheduled access, logging and alerts. The system now manages access for more than 100 people a month (about 40 cardholders plus 80+ temporary PINs), logs cabinet access for controlled substances, and sends notifications on forced-door events—delivering clearer accountability, easier instructor scheduling and substantially improved security compared with the previous shared-code setup.
