A Axis Communications Case Study

Teaching through observation with Axis

The University of Wisconsin River Falls’ Communicative Disorders department needed to replace an aging analog VCR system that made recording, remote observation, and retrieval of therapy sessions cumbersome and time-consuming. To modernize its Speech-Language Pathologist training, the university engaged Axis Communications (via partners PDS, Inc. and CompView) to deploy a network-based video solution using Axis network cameras and Intelligent Stream Recorder (ISR) software.

CompView installed Axis Communications hardware — 1080p AXIS Q6035 PTZ domes in pediatric rooms and AXIS P1346 fixed cameras in adult rooms — streaming two-way audio/video to a PDS-furnished ISR server for live viewing and searchable archives. The Axis Communications solution cut recording setup to under five minutes, enabled students to capture every session instead of just two per client per semester, made clips easily searchable and regularly used in classes, and delivered faster, more effective feedback and teachable moments for supervisors and students.
