Taos Municipal Schools enhance district security by adding a surveillance system to their IT network

Taos Municipal School District in Taos, New Mexico faced growing concerns about student mischief, after‑hours security when the high school is used for university classes, and protection of large inventories of technology. To address these risks the district engaged Axis Communications (via partner CDW‑G) to introduce IP‑based surveillance, specifically deploying AXIS 221 Day & Night network cameras and other Axis network camera solutions.

Axis Communications’ solution calls for 100 network cameras across the district (25 at the high school, 25 at the middle school and 50 at three elementary schools), with the initial rollout installing AXIS 221 cameras at 21 high‑school entry points. The PoE, day/night and motion‑sensing features reduced installation cost and storage needs, immediately helped catch a student pulling a false alarm, and has eased phased expansion with minimal network impact—results the district says justify further rollouts from Axis Communications.
