Case Study: Town of Vail achieves enhanced public safety and surveillance with Axis Communications

Taking the lift up the mountain with Axis

The Town of Vail, Colorado, which hosts nearly two million visitors a year and year-round events, needed a reliable way to handle security, traffic management and live streaming across busy pedestrian and ski areas. Working with Axis Communications, the town chose Axis network cameras (including the AXIS Q6045-E PTZ Dome and AXIS P3367-VE) to replace its legacy analog system and meet needs for theft prevention, traffic surveillance and public streaming.

Axis Communications helped deploy roughly 160 IP cameras across town and integrated them with Milestone XProtect, Aimetis People Counter, HD Relay streaming/time-lapse and Siklu/Ruckus/Aspen wireless infrastructure to handle bandwidth. The upgrade enabled police to use footage almost daily to identify thieves, live streams became the most-clicked links on the town website, and people-count analytics supported planning for events drawing 17,000–23,000 attendees, while improving traffic monitoring and construction oversight.
