Case Study: State of Hawaii achieves statewide inter‑island maritime and harbor surveillance with Axis Communications

Setting a foundation with Axis cameras to secure the complex shores of Hawaii

The State of Hawaii needed coordinated, inter-island maritime surveillance to monitor harbors, protect critical infrastructure and improve emergency response. Hawaiya Technologies used a Homeland Security grant to design and install an IP-based system built around Axis Communications products and planning tools, deploying AXIS Q6044‑E and Q6000‑E PTZs and AXIS P3364‑LVE cameras to meet Hawaii’s unique marine and lighting challenges.

Axis Communications supplied and supported a five‑phase deployment of 215 network cameras across 18 harbors and sites, integrated via point‑to‑point radios and centralised at the Pier 2 command center running Milestone XProtect Corporate. The Axis solution delivered HD and low‑light video, 360° PTZ coverage, proven marine durability (no Axis camera failures reported), 24/7 monitoring and faster situational awareness for storms, tsunamis and harbor incidents, while providing a scalable platform for future statewide expansion.
