Protecting Plato’s Closet with Axis video

Plato’s Closet in West Des Moines, an independently owned high-volume consignment retailer that grew from 2,000 to 7,000 sq. ft., faced rising shrinkage and an aging analog surveillance system that couldn’t deliver the resolution or scalability needed for loss prevention and remote monitoring. To get crystal‑clear, scalable network video, the store turned to Axis Communications for IP video cameras and technology as part of a broader migration to an all‑IP solution.

Axis Communications’ cameras and video technology were deployed as the store moved from analog encoders to a hosted video arrangement and finally to an in‑house Dell server running Salient Systems CompleteView VMS (implemented by ICS Advanced Technologies), including AXIS 241Q encoders, AXIS M3203/M3204 domes and a covert AXIS P8514. The Axis-based system now covers more than 90% of the store and has driven shrinkage below 1%, enabled remote monitoring and diagnostics, provided video evidence used in arrests, and helped resolve customer disputes.
