Case Study: Oswego County achieves enhanced public safety and asset protection with Axis Communications network surveillance

A Axis Communications Case Study

Preview of the Oswego County Case Study

Oswego County, NY uses IP video surveillance on existing backbone to promote public safety and secure county property

Oswego County, New York, faced growing concerns about workplace violence and security at its 17 municipal properties spread across 1,312 square miles. After reviewing 15 bids, the county’s IT department chose a county-wide IP video surveillance approach that included Axis Communications network cameras (AXIS Q6032-E PTZ, AXIS P3344-VE, AXIS 216 MFD) to give the Sheriff’s Department real‑time visibility and forensic-quality recordings.

Cedar Path implemented the solution using more than 50 outdoor-ready Axis Communications PTZ and fixed-dome cameras integrated with Genetec Omnicast VMS and HP archiving servers, leveraging H.264 compression and Arctic temperature-rated hardware for reliable 24/7 operation. The system has helped identify thieves and recover stolen copper, alerts law enforcement to parking-lot altercations, enables the Highway Department to dispatch snowplows more efficiently, and is scalable — Oswego can add another 50–60 cameras and plans a Phase 2 expansion of 45+ Axis cameras.
