Oconto Unified School District uses network video intercom system to control access to its campuses

Oconto Unified School District in Green Bay, Wisconsin needed a cost-effective way to control access and screen visitors across its three schools to protect about 1,200 students, staff and visitors after a 2008 security policy change. Working with integrator LaForce, Inc., the district deployed a network video intercom solution using Aiphone AX-DV audio/video door stations interfaced with Axis Communications’ AXIS 243SA Video Encoder to enable remote identification and door control over the schools’ existing networks.

LaForce installed four AX‑DV units connected to Axis video encoders and a Controlware application on PCs in each school office, allowing authorized staff to view live video, use two‑way audio and activate door releases from any campus. Axis Communications’ encoder secured the streams (HTTPS, IP‑filtering, authentication) and reduced bandwidth with MJPEG/MPEG‑4, enabling all three schools to monitor multiple entrances simultaneously, lock main doors shortly after school starts, and centrally grant or deny access—improving safety and operational efficiency across the district.
