A Axis Communications Case Study
The Los Angeles Police Department's Counter Terrorism and Special Operations Bureau needed easily deployable, covert surveillance for special investigations and large public events. They chose Axis Communications network cameras (including AXIS Q6035‑E, P5534‑E and Q1755 models) with AXIS Camera Companion software, plus a secure wireless mesh network and on‑camera SD recording to give commanders real‑time situational awareness and push live video to officers’ devices.
Axis Communications provided a plug‑and‑play, redeployable system that streams reliably (tested up to 20 miles with no frame drops), stores video at the edge with SD cards and to a 1TB NAS for redundancy, and has been in use since 2007. The installation supports 5–6 intelligence operations per month, protected high‑profile events such as the 12‑mile Endeavour procession and the Academy Awards red carpet, and helped stop a truck from delivering weapons during the Occupy L.A. encampment — demonstrating clear operational and safety impact.
