A Axis Communications Case Study
The City of Longmont, Colorado sought a scalable, city‑wide video surveillance solution to protect critical infrastructure and reassure residents after 9/11, starting with its two water treatment plants. Working with integrator Volpe Industries and Axis Communications network cameras (including AXIS 214 PTZ, AXIS 216FD, AXIS 241QA and AXIS 211A), the city chose an IP‑based approach to leverage existing network infrastructure and expand surveillance affordably over time.
Volpe Industries deployed Axis Communications indoor/outdoor cameras and DETEXI NVRs (running Eagle Eye), using wireless links where wiring was impractical to save the municipality thousands of dollars in hard‑wiring costs. The system enables staff to monitor both plants from a single PC (eliminating routine site drives), gives the police secure remote access to archived video for faster incident response, and has been expanded to libraries, recreation centers and the Safety & Justice building—demonstrating measurable cost savings, improved operational efficiency, and scalable city‑wide coverage powered by Axis Communications.
