Great Lakes Maritime Academy uses live video from Axis cameras to train merchant marines

Great Lakes Maritime Academy in Traverse City, MI needed live, real‑time imagery of Great Lakes conditions to better prepare cadets for complex navigation and docking. To solve this, the Academy worked with Axis Communications (via partner ROK Systems) to deploy an IP network video solution using AXIS P1346‑E HDTV network cameras and Milestone XProtect video management software.

ROK Systems installed four AXIS P1346‑E cameras (1080p/3MP, PoE, remote focus, day/night) managed by Milestone so students and instructors can access live and recorded footage underway or ashore. The Axis Communications solution delivers continuous HDTV views that enhance hands‑on training, streamlines exercises by replacing handheld cameras, adds two‑way audio and intelligent alerts, and doubles as a security system protecting the Academy’s $40M training vessel.
