Case Study: Atlanta Police Foundation and Atlanta Police Dept. achieve a city-wide real-time crime network and faster investigations with Axis Communications

A Axis Communications Case Study

Preview of the Atlanta Police Foundation and Atlanta Police Dept. Case Study

Fighting crime together.

Atlanta Police Foundation and Atlanta Police Dept. faced the challenge of improving public safety, speeding investigations and creating resilient, citywide situational awareness after a 2018 cyberattack disrupted legacy systems. The city launched Connect Atlanta to link municipal and privately owned cameras, using Axis Communications network cameras (including AXIS Q60 and AXIS Q61 series and Axis Zipstream technology) as core hardware feeding the Video Integration Center and the cloud-based Fusus real‑time crime platform.

Axis Communications’ cameras were integrated into the Fusus-powered Connect Atlanta ecosystem to provide live and archived video, rules-based emergency sharing and low‑bandwidth cellular streaming. Today the program connects 1,800 Axis cameras alongside more than 15,000 community‑integrated cameras (with another ~16,500 registered), forming one of the largest public‑private surveillance networks in the U.S.; the system has sped arrests (e.g., a drive‑by shooter identified in under 48 hours), curtailed street racing, helped catch vandals and locate missing persons, and contributed to a reported drop in crime and higher conviction rates.
