Dare County Schools fight multi-campus crime

Dare County Schools in North Carolina’s Outer Banks faced repeated break‑ins, petty thefts and vandalism across multiple campuses and wanted to replace an analog VHS system with a digital, remotely accessible solution. The district worked with Axis Communications (equipment procured through partner CDW) to deploy Axis network cameras, AXIS Camera Station software and video encoders over its existing fiber network.

Axis Communications’ solution was installed in eight of the district’s 11 schools (six to 15 cameras per school) and integrated analog feeds via AXIS 240Q encoders, giving principals local monitoring and select district staff remote access. Motion‑sensing recording and expanded storage (from 10 to 30 days) reduced storage needs and costs; the system helped police apprehend and prosecute a repeated burglar, enabled live monitoring by safety officers when needed, saved staff travel/mileage, and is being expanded to cover athletic fields.
