A Axis Communications Case Study
The City of Savannah faced chronic congestion and public-safety challenges in its historic downtown as up to a million visitors per month and large events like St. Patrick’s Day created pedestrian surges and cascading traffic jams. To gain a comprehensive, real-time view of traffic and crowd movement, the City of Savannah turned to Axis Communications, deploying Axis network cameras and video encoders (integrated with an OnSSI VMS).
Axis Communications implemented a growing network of more than 25 Axis cameras and encoders streaming to the city’s data center, giving police and traffic engineers live situational awareness, remote access, and archived footage for investigations. With Axis Communications’ solution, the city can change signal timing, open or close streets quickly, manage crowd density during major events, push video to field units, and use H.264 compression to save storage—resulting in smoother traffic flow, faster incident response, and safer, more pleasant downtown experiences.
