Case Study: Cincinnati Police Department achieves enhanced citywide public safety and faster incident response with Axis Communications

A Axis Communications Case Study

Preview of the Cincinnati Police Department Case Study

Cincinnati Police Department embraces smart security technology to improve public safety

The Cincinnati Police Department needed sharper, more reliable citywide video after its original analog cameras failed to deliver usable imagery for downtown, neighborhood and riverfront monitoring. Working with Axis Communications, the CPD moved to high‑definition network video—deploying Axis high‑definition pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) cameras (AXIS Q6034‑E and AXIS Q6044‑E) to improve law enforcement, public‑safety and maritime surveillance capabilities.

Federal Signal and integration partners installed nearly 100 Axis Communications HD PTZ cameras managed by Genetec Security Center, using Firetide mesh and Cambium PTP 810 microwave backhaul, H.264 compression and 14‑day storage on a 64 TB Dell Compellent SAN. The Axis solution gave the Real Time Crime Center and field officers real‑time control and mobile access, leading to faster, more accurate incident assessment—rescuing boaters, tracking stolen vehicles for controlled arrests, disproving false reports—and broader video sharing with other city and maritime agencies.
