A Axis Communications Case Study
Chippewa Valley Schools, a suburban Detroit district and the ninth largest in Michigan, needed a cost-effective way to shorten time principals spent investigating incidents and to augment on-site security beyond hall monitors and guards. The district had been hampered by legacy analog DVRs with only seven days of archiving and no event tracking. To modernize surveillance, Chippewa Valley Schools turned to Axis Communications for an IP-based video solution using Axis network cameras and video encoders (integrated with Milestone Systems software).
Axis Communications’ solution — specified by Metro Technology Services and installed by partner Spiritech, Inc. — deployed more than 600 Axis network cameras and AXIS Q7406 video encoders in the district’s busiest schools, integrated with Milestone VMS and Active Directory access controls. The new Axis system extended archival retention from 7 to 35 days, provides motion-based analytics and alarm notifications for malfunctions, lets administrators view multiple camera feeds simultaneously, and dramatically sped up investigations by providing objective video evidence.
