CentraCare improves patient care, strengthens security and fortifies narcotic storage with Axis network cameras

CentraCare Health System, a multi-hospital healthcare network in St. Cloud, Minnesota, faced fragmented security after rapid growth — aging analog cameras and DVRs, disparate site systems, and difficult-to-secure pharmaceutical narcotics lockers threatened patient and staff safety. To modernize surveillance and access control, CentraCare deployed Axis Communications network video solutions (including AXIS P1214‑E, P3304, P3343‑VE and P33/P3353 models with Lightfinder) as part of an IP migration and integrated security upgrade.

Working with integrator Pro‑Tec Design, CentraCare replaced more than 300 analog cameras and added Axis cameras and Q7406 encoders tied into Lenel OnGuard access control, Milestone XProtect VMS and Pivot3 storage for centralized monitoring. Axis Communications’ cameras enabled visual verification of drug‑locker access, live monitoring of high‑risk patients and outdoor helipad/ambulance operations, improved low‑light observation in neonatal wards with Lightfinder, and helped catch a thief — delivering stronger narcotics control, broader centralized oversight across hundreds of miles and measurable modernization of security operations.
