California port cruises to smart security with Axis

The Port of San Diego, which handles more than 100 cruise ship visits a year and recently completed the mile‑long North Embarcadero waterfront redevelopment, needed a robust surveillance solution that would protect a sensitive shipping and naval area without detracting from the promenade’s public art and design. Axis Communications was chosen for the project, supplying AXIS Q6045‑E PTZ network cameras and AXIS T94A01L recessed mounts to meet the Port’s requirements for high‑performance yet unobtrusive monitoring.

Axis Communications’ cameras, installed and integrated into the Port’s existing video system (which includes 100+ Axis cameras), deliver HDTV image quality with 30x optical zoom, automatic defog and highlight compensation, and outdoor‑rated housings to withstand harsh marine weather. The unobtrusive painted housings and recessed mounts preserve the waterfront’s appearance while enabling long‑range, detail‑rich surveillance across the promenade; the solution has proven durable in the field (units remain undamaged after five years) and gives Port security the clarity and coverage needed for effective incident investigation and ongoing public safety.
