Axis network cameras keep a watchful eye on students, faculty and staff

Eastchester Union Free School District, a public school district in Westchester, N.Y., sought to replace an outdated analog surveillance system that produced grainy, black‑and‑white images and often failed to record. To improve campus safety and enable reliable identification and remote monitoring, the district selected Axis Communications’ network video solution, deploying Axis network cameras (with plans to add AXIS 211 PoE outdoor cameras).

Working with Axis Communications and partner Select Telecom Inc., Eastchester installed roughly 100 Axis network cameras on its existing VoIP network using VLANs, enabling constant recording and secure remote access to live and archived video. The Axis system let principals and IT staff monitor hallways, entrances and common areas via the Internet, helped reduce theft and vandalism, and saved the district thousands of dollars in equipment loss and damage in the first year, with plans to expand camera coverage.
