Case Study: VolleyMetrics streamlines match recording and delivers advanced player analytics with Axis Communications network cameras

A Axis Communications Case Study

Preview of the VolleyMetrics Case Study

Analyzing the world of volleyball with Axis

VolleyMetrics, a Provo, Utah–based company founded to bring Sabermetrics-style analysis to NCAA volleyball, faced the problem that many programs could not consistently record matches and often relied on visiting teams to share footage. To solve this, VolleyMetrics deploys Axis Communications network cameras — using fixed domes and PTZs (examples include AXIS P1354, AXIS P3364‑V and AXIS P5414‑E) — to capture matches and practices from multiple viewpoints and feed video into their analysis pipeline.

Using Axis Communications cameras and the cameras’ open API, VolleyMetrics records to edge storage, uploads completed events to its servers for automated tagging and analysis, and provides coaches online access packages to a centralized video library. The solution removed the need for teams to manually process and share footage, reduced streaming/IT load, delivered basic (serves, touches) and advanced player impact metrics, and is now used by programs across more than 20 Division I conferences—saving time, logistics cost, and improving coaching insights.
