Case Study: San Francisco 49ers achieve enhanced stadium security and instant replay with Axis Communications

A Axis Communications Case Study

Preview of the San Francisco 49ers Case Study

After further review, IP video scores for the 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers were struggling with failing DVRs, degraded image quality from long analog cable runs and limited features that made it difficult to monitor more than 150 cameras, perform instant replay or conduct fast forensic searches at Candlestick Park. To modernize stadium safety while preserving existing cameras, the 49ers worked with Axis Communications (via integrator IPVision) to network‑enable their analog system using Axis video encoders.

Axis Communications’ AXIS Q7401/Q7404/Q7406 video encoders were deployed to digitize and de‑interlace feeds and, together with OnSSI VMS on Hitachi servers, delivered full‑frame H.264 video, motion/tamper alerts, bookmarking and instant replay. The upgrade enabled centralized monitoring from the Security Operations Center video wall, faster forensic searches, on‑the‑fly replay and sharing of clips with patrols; as a result the 49ers can monitor over 150 cameras in real time and more quickly locate and resolve incidents, improving game‑day security and operational response.
