New Norcia enhances heritage wayfinding with Axiom over 10+ years

The New Norcia Benedictine Community, operator of Australia's only monastic town, faced a challenge with its inadequate and inconsistent wayfinding signage. The ad-hoc signs, installed by multiple suppliers over decades, lacked a cohesive strategy, resulting in poor legibility and orientation for visitors and workers, which also presented a health and safety issue. The community engaged the vendor, Axiom, to design and implement a new wayfinding signage system to address these problems.

Axiom began with a site audit and discovery phase to define a new wayfinding strategy. They then managed the full project scope, from designing the sign hierarchy and types to tendering, fabrication, and installation. The new signage was staged to coincide with other town works starting in 2015. The result significantly enhanced the visitor experience by providing clear orientation that blends harmoniously with the historical site. The customer was highly satisfied, commissioning Axiom for subsequent projects and recommending them without reservation for their professionalism, sensitivity to the site, and ability to work within agreed timelines and budgets.
