A Axiom Case Study
Fremantle Prison commissioned Axiom to create a public art installation for the Fairbairn Street Ramp. The challenge was to design a historically accurate, durable interpretive sculpture that would activate the underutilized space. The artwork needed to depict convict arrivals with enough detail and personality to avoid being simplistic, while withstanding both the elements and public interaction.
Axiom's solution involved deep historical research and close work with prison curatorial staff to ensure authenticity. They designed a detailed narrative sculpture from 20mm Corten steel, pushing fabrication boundaries. The result is a permanent, engaging installation expected to be enjoyed by millions of visitors to the World Heritage-listed Fremantle Prison for decades to come.
