Retail Grocery Company, a retail grocery operator in Northern California, was looking for a way to reduce high utility demand charges at its three stores and generate new revenue by participating in California's Demand Response Auction Mechanism (DRAM) program. They engaged Axiom Cloud to implement a lightweight solution that could unlock the power flexibility of their existing refrigeration systems without disrupting operations.

Axiom Cloud implemented its Virtual Battery app to turn the stores' low-temperature refrigeration systems into flexible assets, supplemented by a Refrigeration Battery at one location. This solution intelligently pre-cooled stores and managed energy use to co-optimize for both bill savings and grid revenue. Through a partnership with an aggregator, Axiom Cloud successfully demonstrated a 193 kW load reduction during a demand response event. This resulted in tens of thousands of dollars in annual DR revenue for the customer, in addition to reducing their utility bills and improving system efficiency.
