A Axiell Case Study
The Technisches Museum Wien faced the challenge of making its vast collection of approximately 160,000 objects, previously accessible only to specialists, available to the global public. To replace an outdated in-house system, the museum partnered with vendor Axiell to implement its Adlib database and thesaurus system, which could handle both object records and archival material.
Axiell's solution provided a high-performance, publicly accessible online database. The Adlib platform, featuring a robust thesaurus module, enabled structured searches and real-time updates to the collection. This resulted in 90% of the museum's holdings becoming available online, fostering public transparency and collaboration by allowing users to help amend records. The Technisches Museum Wien is now a leading example of openness in the Austrian cultural scene.
