National Maritime Museum - Customer Case Study

The National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London, needed to make its vast and diverse collections more visible and accessible both in-gallery and online while centralizing collections information and supporting large-scale data conversion and digitisation across departments. To address these challenges the museum selected Axiell and its Axiell Mimsy XG system to enable lateral working between departments, central management of collections data, and publishing to public-facing services.

Using Axiell Mimsy XG, the museum implemented centralized collections management, accelerated digitisation and online publishing via Collections Online—now with about 270,000 searchable records and a further ~130,000 negative records plus 10,000 images coming soon—and won a Museum Computer Group award for easy online navigation. Axiell’s solution has improved cross-department workflows, expanded public access to the collections, and supported a more engaging visitor experience as the museum has grown its audience and nearly doubled visitor numbers.
