A Axiell Case Study
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Montreal, steward of nearly 8,000 works and charged with informing, promoting and conserving contemporary Quebec art, needed to consolidate disparate databases and to collate, validate, document and digitize a wide range of collection media (video, audio, images, publications and archival materials) to improve internal research and public access. Working with vendor Axiell and its Mimsy XG collections management system, the museum aimed to centralize data about works, artists, events and operations and increase digital visibility.
Axiell implemented and consolidated Mimsy XG as the museum’s central CMS (building on a 2004–2005 migration), enabling integration and viewing of newly digitized video works, audiovisual recordings, digitized publications and a dedicated archival view to describe and link fonds/series/files (for example, the Paul‑Émile Borduas archives). The solution has given curators faster, richer access to multimedia content, supports a web interface for regular publishing and updates, and broadened public access and research capabilities across the museum’s collection.
