Albright-Knox Art Gallery wanted to extend its physical galleries into a clean, engaging online experience where visitors could easily find, download and share high-resolution images and contextual information. The museum’s prior search tool only supported basic keyword searches and could not surface the richer data and assets now available in its collections database. To address this, Albright-Knox worked with Axiell, using the Mimsy XG collections management system alongside their digital asset management system to power a new responsive “Search the Collection” tool.
Axiell’s Mimsy XG was integrated into a Drupal 8 site so artwork data comes from Mimsy XG and images from the DAMS, enabling advanced filters (object type, date range, donor), sorting and an interactive Collection Timeline. The result: a 136% increase in visits to the Search the Collection landing page (7,590 → 17,936), a 226% rise in artwork page views (14,873 → 63,365) and 29% longer time on pages, plus improved discoverability, a GLAMi nomination and stronger foundations for future education and engagement projects.
