A Axiell Case Study
The Autry Museum of the American West, a Los Angeles museum caring for over half a million objects across three facilities, faced a complex, multi-year rehousing project and frequent object movements that were time-consuming and error-prone when tracked by hand. To modernize inventory control the museum selected Axiell’s Mimsy XG collection management system and a one-dimensional barcode approach to ensure durable, object-safe labels and reliable data capture for both individual items and nested containers.
Axiell worked with the Autry to enable direct uploads from scanners into Mimsy XG, solved nested-container data issues (including tracking empty containers), and—after the museum installed wireless—helped implement Axiell Move on iOS devices for real-time scanning. The solution made tracking far more efficient and easier to train on; the Autry has moved more than half its collections with accurate location updates and without hiring extra data-entry staff, demonstrating clear time and resource savings.
