How the Micropreneur Academy Built a Private Community of 1,000 Bootstrapped Software Entrepreneurs

Micropreneur Academy, founded by Mike Taber and Rob Walling, is a private community for bootstrapped software entrepreneurs that has grown to about 1,000 active members (nearly 3,000 have passed through). Running on a patchwork of WordPress plugins created constant headaches — upgrades broke things, forums and messaging were poor and not mobile-ready, search was weak, engagement required manual email digests, and performance was slow with no viable upgrade path for their forum plugin.

They migrated to Communifire and launched FounderCafe, using its omnipresent search, familiar social interface, wikis, forums, chat and event tools plus responsive performance and hands-on support. The result: a much faster, more engaging private community that simplifies conference onboarding, supports a premium-community strategy, and has increased member interaction and satisfaction.
