VidRoll is a video technology and monetization platform that helps publishers deliver targeted ads across multiscreen environments. As its business grew, the company found that managing EC2 instances and related operational tasks for real-time ad bidding, video transcoding, and database workloads was slowing developers down, even with AWS Elastic Beanstalk.
To address this, VidRoll used AWS Lambda, along with Amazon API Gateway and other AWS services, to run its real-time bidding logic and transcode video ads without worrying about infrastructure management. With AWS Lambda, VidRoll says its team can do more with 2–3 engineers than would typically require 8–10, and the company grew revenue 10x without adding technical staff to handle increased volume.
